Dreamforce 2024 in San Francisco was packed with exciting announcements, especially around AI and data analytics. Over 45,000 attendees converged to discuss the future of Salesforce and its impact on customers. Here’s a breakdown of the key updates relevant to AI, Salesforce, and Tableau:
One of the major takeaways from the event was the introduction of AgentForce—a rebrand of Salesforce’s AI layer, previously known as Einstein Copilot. This AI system is designed to streamline operations by assisting customers and users with day-to-day tasks.
With AgentForce, businesses can now create custom “agents” (generative pre-trained transformers) for specific use cases such as sales, marketing, customer experience, and support. It enables companies to automate processes, provide chat-like interactions for support, and build efficient workflows across different Salesforce clouds, making AI more accessible across various industries.
Salesforce has built Data Cloud, a powerful engine where all customer data flows through before being used by AI tools. What’s exciting is that it employs a “zero copy” architecture, meaning data from anywhere can pass through the Data Cloud without being copied. The trust layer also ensures privacy by masking data before sending it to OpenAI APIs.
Data Cloud helps bridge the gap between different Salesforce products like Marketing Cloud, Sales Cloud, and Service Cloud, creating a comprehensive longitudinal view of customer interactions. This capability enables more integrated analytics and insights for Salesforce users.
Another significant announcement was Tableau Einstein, which is set to revolutionize the way analytics is done on the Salesforce platform. It introduces a composable AI analytics platform, meaning users can build reusable analytics components and share them across different projects. These components include everything from raw data sources to dashboards, pulse metrics, and even business logic layers.
Perhaps the most exciting part is the forthcoming Tableau Einstein Marketplace (expected to launch in 2025), where users can upload and sell these analytics components. This could democratize data analytics by allowing companies of all sizes to access advanced Tableau solutions—making it especially useful for nonprofits and smaller businesses with limited resources.
Salesforce also showcased the Tableau Agent, a smart AI assistant designed to help users with data exploration within Tableau. It’s essentially a chatbot integrated into the Tableau authoring experience, allowing users to ask questions and receive instant visualizations. For example, you can ask, “Which customer has the highest sales?” and Tableau Agent will generate the chart instantly.
While it’s still early days for the tool, this feature could significantly streamline data exploration and empower non-technical users to leverage Tableau’s analytics capabilities.
Salesforce is focusing on enhancing Tableau’s UI and integration with its broader ecosystem. Over the next 24 months, we can expect Salesforce to consolidate its various analytics offerings—like CRM Analytics and Tableau—into a more cohesive system under Tableau Einstein.
While traditional Tableau will remain a key product for non-Salesforce users, the Salesforce platform will continue to push forward with AI-driven analytics.
